... about EFR Beginners' courses!
Joining a new group and doing something you’ve never tried before aren’t easy. So before you sign up to one of our beginners’ courses, you’ll want to know exactly what you’re getting yourself into.
Here are answers to some of the questions you might be too afraid, or embarrassed, to ask:
Am I too old/fat/unfit to run?
No! We’re made up of people of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels. Not quite ready to jog yet? No problem, our walking group will help to prepare you. If you have a long term condition (for example, diabetes, asthma or arthritis) you should check with your GP before you take up jogging.
What if I'm the slowest?
Even if you are, and you might not be, it won't matter. We always double back after each bout of jogging, which means you won’t get left behind. We don't care how fast (or slow) you jog, or how far. We want you go at a pace that's comfortable for you.
Who else will be in the group?
We're not standoffish or cliquey, so don’t worry if you're coming on your own. The people in your group will be a chatty and welcoming bunch. Like you, they’ll have little or no experience of jogging. And they’ll have the same kinds of concerns about starting to jog that you do.
What will I have to do?
Don't worry, we’ll take it gently! If you’re part of the Walking Group, you'll take part in gentle 40 minute walks. If you can jog for 30 seconds continuously, here's what will happen in the first session of our Learn To Run group:
Over the 10 weeks the time you spend jogging will gradually increase, and the time you spend walking will decrease, until you can jog for 15 minutes.
